What the ACFT Calculator Scores on the Legacy 6-Event Test

The ACFT Calculator from AFT Calculator scores the legacy 6-event test as a legacy scoring tool that converts six event results into event points and a total score. Our calculator covers test versions from 2018 through 2025 and scores the three-repetition maximum deadlift, standing power throw, hand-release push-up, sprint-drag-carry, plank or leg tuck, and two-mile run.

Each ACFT event scores up to 100 points, creating a maximum ACFT total of 600 points. AFT Calculator returns points for each event, the combined score, and pass/fail information based on the selected legacy scoring scale.

The Army replaced the six-event ACFT with the five-event Army Fitness Test in June 2025.

The AFT Replaced the ACFT in June 2025

The Army Fitness Test (AFT) replaced the six-event ACFT as the Army’s physical fitness test of record on June 1, 2025. The AFT retains the three-repetition maximum deadlift, hand-release push-up, sprint-drag-carry, plank, and two-mile run; the AFT removes the standing power throw. The U.S. Army announced the transition and implementation schedule.

Soldiers began taking the AFT on June 1, 2025, under the applicable general standard. The AFT combat standard took effect for active-component combat specialties on January 1, 2026, and for Reserve and National Guard combat specialties on June 1, 2026, as set out in Army Directive 2025-06, "Army Fitness Test," signed by Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll in April 2025. Soldiers calculating a current five-event result should use the AFT score calculator.

ACFT Event Results the Calculator Accepts

AFT Calculator's ACFT calculator accepts the six event results below, with age group and sex inputs selecting the applicable scoring scale.

3 Repetition Maximum Deadlift Weight

The 3 Repetition Maximum Deadlift input is the heaviest weight, in pounds, lifted for three valid repetitions. Soldiers use a 60-pound hex bar and keep a flat back while raising the bar to full hip and knee extension.

Graders require each deadlift repetition to begin from the ground and return under control until the plates touch the ground. Our calculator matches the entered weight to the selected legacy scoring scale, age group, and sex, then assigns 0–100 event points.

Standing Power Throw Distance

The Standing Power Throw calculator input is the distance, in meters, achieved with a 10-pound medicine ball. The soldier faces away from the throwing direction, holds the ball with both hands, and throws the ball backward overhead; graders record the longer valid throw from two attempts.

AFT Calculator matches the throw distance to the selected legacy ACFT scale for the test version, age group, and sex. The Standing Power Throw result earns 0–100 event points, with 60 points marking the standard event minimum.

Hand-Release Push-Up Repetitions

The Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP) input is the number of valid repetitions completed in two minutes. Each HRP repetition requires the soldier to lower the chest, hips, and thighs to the ground, release both hands, then push the body upward as one unit until the elbows fully extend. Graders reject repetitions that break the required body position or movement standard.

Our calculator matches the valid repetition count to the selected legacy scoring table and assigns 0–100 event points. On the standard passing scale, 10 repetitions earn 60 points; exact HRP scores depend on the test version, age group, and sex. (Army ACFT scoring standards)

Sprint-Drag-Carry Time

The Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC) calculator input is the Soldier’s total time in minutes and seconds. The Sprint-Drag-Carry combines five 50-meter shuttles: a sprint, backward sled drag, lateral movement, kettlebell carry, and final sprint.

Graders require Soldiers to touch the 25-meter line during sprints, drag the 90-pound sled beyond the marked lines, and carry two 40-pound kettlebells past the line. AFT Calculator matches the recorded SDC time to the selected legacy ACFT scale, assigning up to 100 points; faster times earn more points.

Plank Time and the Retired Leg Tuck

The Plank input records the Soldier’s hold time in minutes and seconds. Graders require a straight body position supported by the forearms and feet; the Plank event ends when the Soldier loses the position or touches the ground with another body part. ACFT 3.0 and later legacy scales score the Plank from 0 to 100 points, with 60 points required to meet the event minimum.

The retired Leg Tuck input records correctly completed repetitions. Each Leg Tuck repetition begins from a hanging position with straight arms and requires the Soldier to raise the knees toward the elbows, then return under control. Earlier ACFT versions scored Leg Tucks from 0 to 100 points; the Army replaced the Leg Tuck with the Plank in the revised test effective April 1, 2022.

Two-Mile Run Time

The Two-Mile Run is entered as a completion time in minutes and seconds, such as 18:42. Graders record the soldier’s time on a measured two-mile course.

Our calculator matches the run time to the selected legacy ACFT scoring scale, age group, and sex. Faster Two-Mile Run times earn more points on the event’s 0–100 scale, with 60 points representing the legacy event minimum.

Age Group and Sex Inputs

Age group and sex inputs select the scoring table used by the legacy ACFT calculator. The available age brackets are 17–21, 22–26, 27–31, 32–36, 37–41, 42–46, 47–51, 52–56, 57–61, and 62 and over.

The selected sex determines which sex-based standards apply, including standards for the Hand-Release Push-Up and Two-Mile Run. AFT Calculator uses the age group and sex inputs with the selected legacy scoring version, including the age-and-sex scales used in ACFT 4.0; ACFT 3.0 MOS demand scoring follows its own category rules.

ACFT Scoring Modes the Calculator Covers

AFT Calculator's ACFT calculator covers four scoring modes: the legacy score chart, promotion-point conversion, ACFT 3.0 MOS physical-demand categories, and ACFT 4.0 age-and-sex scoring scales.

ACFT Score Chart (Legacy 2018–2025)

The legacy ACFT score chart maps raw event results to points from 0 to 100. The score chart table shows example thresholds for the 17–21 age group using the male scoring scale, according to the ACFT scoring scales published by the U.S. Army as of March 23, 2022; official Army tables vary by age, sex, and test version. (U.S. Army ACFT scoring resources)

Two-Mile Runmin:s22:0018:3513:22

Values reflect the 17–21 age group and male scoring scale of the March 2022 ACFT tables; the deadlift table skips 70 points, so 200 lb (72 points) is the lightest weight at or above 70. The March 2022 tables no longer score the Leg Tuck, so the Leg Tuck row reflects the earlier sex-neutral ACFT scale. Leg Tuck and Plank appear as separate rows because ACFT versions used different core events; check the applicable official scoring table for the test version administered.

ACFT Score to Promotion Points

For semi-centralized promotion to sergeant (SGT) or staff sergeant (SSG), a passing legacy ACFT score converts to 24–120 promotion points. Lt. Gen. Gary M. Brito's G-1 memorandum "Promotion Point Changes for Promotion to Sergeant and Staff Sergeant" (April 2022) sets the former ACFT promotion scale in two-point increments, from 24 points for a 360–364 total to the maximum 120 points for 600 ACFT points; the fitness component has the same 120-point cap for both promotion grades. Soldiers must meet the minimum standard in every event to receive ACFT promotion points, as outlined in Army promotion guidance.

The Army uses a revised promotion-point table for AFT scores under the five-event test; the AFT fitness component retains a 120-point maximum.

ACFT 3.0 MOS Physical Demand Categories

The ACFT 3.0 MOS physical-demand categories were Heavy, Significant, and Moderate. Soldiers in Heavy-demand roles, such as combat-arms occupations, needed at least 70 points on each event; Significant-demand roles required 65 points per event, while Moderate-demand roles required 60, as Military.com documents in "Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) Score Chart," updated March 2023. The Army assigned MOS physical-demand categories according to the physical demands of each military occupational specialty, rather than applying one event threshold to every soldier.

The Army replaced the MOS-category model with ACFT 4.0 age- and sex-normed scoring in 2022. The Army’s ACFT scoring guidance describes that change; the later Army Fitness Test replaced the ACFT in June 2025.

ACFT 4.0 Age-and-Sex Scoring Scales

ACFT 4.0 uses age- and sex-normed scoring tables, effective April 1, 2022, the start date of diagnostic testing on the revised scales, according to "Army implements ACFT based on scores, RAND study, and Soldier feedback" by U.S. Army Public Affairs, March 2022. The ACFT 4.0 age brackets are 17–21, 22–26, 27–31, 32–36, 37–41, 42–46, 47–51, 52–56, 57–61, and 62 and older. Each ACFT 4.0 event converts a raw result into 0–100 points using the applicable age-group and sex table.

AFT Calculator applies the selected ACFT 4.0 scale after the user enters age group and sex. The Army describes the revised scoring standards in Army Directive 2022-05, Army Combat Fitness Test.

Reading Your ACFT Score Against the 360-Point Minimum

A legacy ACFT score passes the total-score requirement at 360 points or higher, out of 600. The Army’s scoring standard assigns 0–100 points to each of six events and requires soldiers to meet both the total minimum and each event minimum; Army G-1 promotion guidance, "Promotion Point Changes for Promotion to Sergeant and Staff Sergeant" by Lt. Gen. Gary M. Brito (April 2022), names 360 points as the minimum passing ACFT score. AFT Calculator flags a failing total when the score falls below 360. Army ACFT guidance

Score markers such as 360, 420, 480, 540, and 600 help compare performance, but the score markers are not separate official pass categories. A total above 360 still fails when any event score falls below 60, making the per-event floor the second condition of a passing ACFT.

The 60-Point Minimum on Each ACFT Event

Every ACFT event requires at least 60 points for a passing test. A soldier fails the ACFT if any event falls below 60 points, even when the six-event total reaches 360 or more. Our calculator flags each event below the 60-point floor as failing.

A failed record ACFT requires a retest under the applicable Army timeline. Army guidance generally set retest windows at 120–180 days for Regular Army and U.S. Army Reserve Active Guard Reserve soldiers, and 180–240 days for other Reserve Component soldiers; authorized earlier retesting may follow sufficient reconditioning. Each ACFT event contributes up to 100 points, and a passing ACFT requires at least 360 total points and 60 points in every event. Raw results vary by age group, sex, and scoring-table version; consult the applicable official ACFT 4.0 scale for exact thresholds.

Why Choose AFT Calculator for Legacy ACFT Scores

AFT Calculator is the right choice for legacy ACFT scores because our legacy ACFT calculator interprets six-event results from 2018–2025. AFT Calculator's main advantages are listed below:

  • Supports legacy scales: Select the ACFT scoring version that matches the test date.
  • Applies soldier inputs: Enter age group and sex to use the corresponding scoring scale.
  • Shows promotion points: Review promotion-point results alongside the legacy ACFT score.
  • Connects to current scoring: Use the separate AFT score calculator for tests taken under the five-event Army Fitness Test.

How the ACFT Calculator Converts Raw Results Into Points

AFT Calculator's ACFT calculator converts raw results into points by matching each of six raw event results to the selected legacy scoring scale and adding the matched scores into one total. We use the test version, age group, and sex to assign each event between 0 and 100 points. The six event scores add up to a maximum of 600 points, while our calculator checks whether each event meets the 60-point minimum. The three steps below explain how AFT Calculator matches results, totals points, and records the score on DA Form 705.

Step 1: Match Each Raw Result to the Scoring Scale

AFT Calculator matches each legacy event result to the scoring scale for the test version, age group, and sex. When a raw result falls between published table values, our calculator assigns the corresponding score using the scale’s applicable scoring rule. The six matched event points then move to the next step for addition.

Step 2: Add the Six Event Scores Into the 600-Point Total

AFT Calculator adds the six event scores into the 600-point total, with each event contributing 0 to 100 points. Before accepting the total as a pass, we check that every event score meets the 60-point minimum; a score below 60 makes the test a failure, even when the total reaches 360 points.

Step 3: Record the Total on the DA Form 705 Scorecard

AFT Calculator lays out the total in the DA Form 705 scorecard format, where the DA Form 705-TEST records each raw ACFT result, its event points, and the six-event total. The grader initials each event entry, and the soldier signs to confirm the recorded results.

The OIC or NCOIC signs and dates the scorecard to verify the test. The unit testing chain submits the verified form as the soldier’s documented ACFT record.

How Does an ACFT Score Translate to the 5-Event AFT?

An ACFT score does not translate directly into a 5-event AFT score. The ACFT and AFT share five events: the Three-Repetition Maximum Deadlift, Hand-Release Push-Up, Sprint-Drag-Carry, Plank, and Two-Mile Run. Sgt. Woodlyne Escarne reports in "Army introduces new fitness test for 2025," published by the U.S. Army in May 2025, that the AFT dropped the Standing Power Throw, reducing the maximum from 600 points across six events to 500 points across five events. (U.S. Army; Inch Calculator)

The ACFT and AFT passing standards differ as well: the legacy ACFT required 360 total points, while the AFT requires 300 points under the general standard or 350 points under the combat standard, according to "Army establishes new fitness test of record to strengthen readiness and lethality" by Army Public Affairs, April 2025. Both tests require at least 60 points per event, so an ACFT total cannot be reliably divided or adjusted to produce an equivalent AFT score. The comparison table below outlines the full scoring differences. (CalcifyAI; Inch Calculator)

To find a current AFT score, soldiers enter fresh results for all five AFT events in the AFT score calculator.

Calculating Your AFT Score With AFT Calculator After the ACFT

AFT Calculator scores a current five-event Army Fitness Test using deadlift weight, hand-release push-up repetitions, sprint-drag-carry time, plank time, and two-mile run time. Soldiers select the general standard, which uses age- and sex-normed scoring, or the combat standard, which uses an age-normed, sex-neutral scale.

The general standard requires 300 total points and at least 60 points per event; the combat standard requires 350 total points and the same event floor. Open the AFT score calculator and enter results from a test administered under the current five-event standards.

Why Did the Army Retire the ACFT's Six Events?

The Army retired the ACFT's six events because the Army wanted a test aligned with combat readiness that addressed concerns about fairness, event validity, and injury risk. RAND's independent review found that the Army lacked evidence that every ACFT event predicted combat-task performance or reduced injuries, and reported pass rates of 41% to 52% for enlisted women against 83% to 92% for enlisted men, according to "Independent Review of the Army Combat Fitness Test: Summary of Key Findings and Recommendations" by the RAND Corporation, March 2022. Congressional review preceded the change, including a fiscal year 2021 law that required an independent ACFT assessment (National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021). The Army’s ACFT review led to changes in individual events, including removing the Standing Power Throw and replacing the Leg Tuck with the Plank, as documented in "Army introduces new fitness test for 2025" by Sgt. Woodlyne Escarne, U.S. Army, May 2025.

Standing Power Throw Removal From the Test

The Army removed the Standing Power Throw because performance data raised concerns about whether the event measured practical power and job-related fitness. Army reviews identified technique dependence and higher overuse-injury risk as Standing Power Throw limitations.

Leg Tuck Replacement by the Plank

The Army replaced the Leg Tuck with the Plank because Leg Tuck performance depended partly on upper-body strength and showed much lower pass rates among women. The Plank provided a more standardized core-endurance test and a more comparable assessment across soldiers.

ACFT 6-Event vs AFT 5-Event Scoring Differences

The ACFT and AFT use different event counts, scoring totals, and passing thresholds. The Army replaced the six-event ACFT with the five-event AFT on June 1, 2025.

Effective datesLegacy test versions ran from 2019 through May 31, 2025AFT became the Army test of record on June 1, 2025; combat-standard requirements phase in during 2026

Army Directive 2025-06, Army Fitness Test, signed by Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll in April 2025, establishes the AFT’s five events, scoring standards, and implementation dates, and ends ACFT testing after May 31, 2025. Legacy ACFT standards appear in the Army’s ACFT testing guidance.

APFT Scores Before the ACFT Era

The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) preceded the ACFT and measured push-ups, sit-ups, and a two-mile run, with each event worth up to 100 points. APFT scores do not convert directly into ACFT points because the APFT and ACFT use different events and scoring scales.

Did a 540 ACFT Score Exempt Soldiers From the Tape Test?

Yes, a record ACFT score of at least 540 points exempted a Soldier from the tape assessment only when every event score reached 80 points. U.S. Army Public Affairs reports in "New directive exempts Soldiers who score 540+ on the ACFT from body fat assessment" (March 2023) that Army Directive 2023-08 established the exemption that month and required Soldiers to complete all six ACFT events, with no alternate events authorized. Under current AFT guidance, a fitness-test score no longer provides a tape-test exemption; the earlier AFT threshold of 465 points with at least 80 points per event was rescinded. (Army Directive 2023-08, March 2023.)

Does a Legacy ACFT Score Still Count After June 2025?

Yes, a legacy ACFT score remained valid for specified transition and administrative uses, but the legacy ACFT score no longer serves as the Army’s current fitness test after the transition. Record ACFT tests taken before May 31, 2025, remained valid under current Army policies, and a record ACFT taken before that date counted for promotion until September 30, 2025, according to Army Directive 2025-06, "Army Fitness Test," signed by Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll in April 2025. A record AFT replaces the ACFT score when a soldier completes the AFT, while some applicable administrative uses may accept the legacy score until then, subject to policy limits. AFT Calculator's ACFT calculator scores legacy six-event results from 2018–2025, while soldiers taking a test now should use the AFT score calculator.
