How Is Your AFT Score Calculated?

To calculate an AFT score, turn each of the five event results into points and add them up. Every event scores 0 to 100 points, so the total runs to 500.

The AFT score calculation steps are listed below:

    Enter the raw result: the deadlift weight in pounds, the push-up repetitions, and the Sprint-Drag-Carry, plank, and two-mile run times.

    Pick the right column: the age group on test day, the sex, and the standard (General or Combat) decide which scoring table applies.

    Read the event points: each result earns 0 to 100 points, in steps rather than on a smooth scale, so one more repetition or one second can be worth a point, several points, or none.

    Add the five scores: the five event scores make the AFT total out of 500 points.

The AFT scoring values above follow the "Army Fitness Test Score Tables" published by the U.S. Army, approved on 15 May 2025 and effective 1 June 2025.

Points are set by age band (17–21, 22–26, 27–31, 32–36, 37–41, 42–46, 47–51, 52–56, 57–61 and 62+), so the same result can earn different points as you move into an older bracket. The AFT score chart for females uses the same five events and points tiers but its own sex-normed values under the General standard, while the Combat standard applies the same values to all soldiers.

What Score Do You Need to Pass the AFT?

A pass needs both halves: at least 60 points in every event, and a total of 300 points under the General standard or 350 points under the Combat standard. One event below 60 points fails the whole test, whatever the total.

The maximum AFT score is 500 points: 100 points in each of the five events. Soldiers take a record AFT at least once a year, and only the record test, not a diagnostic test, counts toward the minimums above. Above the minimum, a higher AFT total also earns promotion points for eligible enlisted soldiers, so every extra point on the calculator counts.

Combat Standard vs General Standard: Which One Applies to You?

The AFT has two scoring standards, both read from the Army score tables approved on 15 May 2025 and effective 1 June 2025. The General standard is normed by age and sex and needs a 300-point total, while the sex-neutral Combat standard covers the 24 designated combat MOSs and needs 350. Every event scores 0 to 100 points, and no event may fall below 60.

General and Combat MOS Fitness Standards

Combat standard

General and Combat MOS fitness standards split Soldiers by specialty: 24 designated combat MOSs test under the Combat standard, and every other MOS tests under the General standard. The Combat standard covers 11A, 11B, 11C, 11Z, 12A, 12B, 12D, 13A, 13F, 18A, 180A, 18B, 18C, 18D, 18E, 18F, 18Z, 19A, 19C, 19D, 19K, 19Z, 89D, and 89E. The Combat standard is sex-neutral and age-normed and requires a 350-point minimum total, so identical performance earns identical points regardless of sex.

General standard

300-point minimum total

The General standard applies to combat-enabling MOSs, the specialties outside the combat list. The General standard is normed by age and sex, requires a 300-point minimum total, and uses separate male and female tables that set different raw performance for the same point value. Both standards keep the 60-point minimum per event.

What Is the Army Fitness Test (AFT)?

The Army Fitness Test (AFT) is the U.S. Army's physical fitness test of record, taken by Soldiers in the Regular Army, the Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard, and its five scored events replaced the ACFT in June 2025. The AFT is a 5-event test: the 3-repetition maximum deadlift, hand-release push-up, sprint-drag-carry, plank and 2-mile run, taken in that order. Each of the five AFT events scores 0 to 100 points on tables set by age band and, under the General standard, by sex. An Army fitness test calculator such as this one reads those tables for each raw result, adds the five event scores, and checks both pass conditions. The Army AFT replaced the six-event ACFT as the Army's fitness test of record in June 2025.

Passing AFT Score Example

A 28-year-old male Soldier in the 27-31 age band, tested under the General standard, scores as listed below:

  • 3-Repetition Maximum Deadlift: 340 pounds, 98 points.
  • Hand-Release Push-Up: 42 repetitions, 84 points.
  • Sprint-Drag-Carry: 1:45, 90 points.
  • Plank: 3:15, 95 points.
  • Two-Mile Run: 15:30, 90 points.

The total of 457 points clears the 300-point General threshold, and every event clears 60 points, so the Soldier passes.

Failed AFT Event Example

The same Soldier lifts 340 pounds on the deadlift (98 points), completes 65 hand-release push-ups (100 points), finishes the Sprint-Drag-Carry in 1:32 (98 points), and runs the two miles in 13:45 (99 points). The plank ends at 1:19, one second short of the 1:20 needed for 60 points in the 27-31 band, and scores 58 points. The total of 453 points clears the threshold, yet the 58-point plank fails the whole test.

Is the AFT the New Army PT Test? AFT vs ACFT vs APFT

Yes, the AFT is the new Army PT test: it replaced the ACFT as the Army's fitness test of record on 1 June 2025, and this calculator scores the current AFT only, on the tables effective that day. The table below sets the three tests side by side.

If you are looking for an APFT calculator, note that the legacy APFT (push-ups, sit-ups and 2-mile run) is no longer the Army's test of record, and its scores do not convert to the AFT. ACFT scores do not carry over either: the AFT dropped the standing power throw and uses new scoring tables for its five events.

Can Army Reserve and National Guard Soldiers Use This AFT Calculator?

Active Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard soldiers all take the same Army Fitness Test against the same scoring scales, so this calculator works for every component.

Active Army

Regular Army and Active Guard Reserve Soldiers score on the same General and Combat tables as every other component. Soldiers in the 24 designated combat MOSs have tested under the Combat standard's 350-point minimum since 1 January 2026.

Army Reserve

Army Reserve Soldiers use the same scoring scales and the same pass rules. Combat-MOS Soldiers on active-duty orders over 60 days moved to the Combat standard on 1 January 2026, and all other Reserve Soldiers in combat MOSs on 1 June 2026.

Army National Guard

Army National Guard Soldiers score every event on the same tables as the active component. Guard Soldiers in combat MOSs on active-duty orders over 60 days moved to the Combat standard on 1 January 2026, and the rest on 1 June 2026.

ROTC/OCS

Cadets and officer candidates who take the AFT score the same five events on the same tables, under the General standard or, for officer combat specialties such as 11A, 13A, and 19A, under the 350-point Combat standard.

Can You Use This Calculator as an AFT Grader Scoresheet?

No, this calculator does not replace the grader's scoresheet, but it runs the same points lookup a grader makes for each event: it finds the column for your age band, sex, and standard, reads the points your raw result earns on the June 2025 tables, and adds the five scores. Only the official scorecard a grader fills in on test day counts for record.

What Happens If You Fail the AFT?

Failing the AFT means scoring below 60 points in any event or below the minimum total for your standard on a record test, and Army Directive 2025-06 then requires a passing retest within 90 days in the Regular Army and Active Guard Reserve, or within 180 days in the Reserve Component. When were the AFT scoring tables last updated?

AFT scoring table version updates began with the launch of the AFT score tables on 1 June 2025, when age- and sex-normed General scoring applied to all Soldiers. Army Directive 2025-06 (Army Fitness Test), signed by Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll in April 2025, set the sex-neutral, age-normed Combat standard to begin on 1 January 2026 for the Regular Army, the Active Guard Reserve, and Reserve Component Soldiers on active-duty orders over 60 days, and on 1 June 2026 for all other Reserve and National Guard Soldiers in combat MOSs. In April 2026, Army Directive 2026-07 added 12D, 89D, and 89E to the combat list, which changed who tests under the Combat standard without changing the point tables.

The AFT calculator applies the tables effective 1 June 2025 for both the General and Combat standards, since both activation dates have passed.
